Information is requested about the use of journal literature in the department.

Since 2004 Dept of Chemistry journal subscriptions have been managed via the Journal Coordination Scheme. All schools of the university now participate in this scheme which has enabled maximum journal coverage and access in the most cost-efficient way. With the increase in university-wide and offsite electronic availability it has been possible to cancel duplicated print subscriptions and increase the number of titles available. Over recent years Dept of Chemistry has benefitted from additional access to newly published and previously unsubscribed titles.

However, publishers' subscription charges have risen at above inflationary rates over the same period and the large university expenditure on journal subscriptions is becoming unsustainable. As savings are no longer available through cancellation of duplicate print subscriptions the Steering Committee of the Journal Coordination Scheme is looking for cost savings in other ways. One likely outcome is that for subscription year 2012 some cancellations will be required by all schools of the university.

Information is now requested on the titles most used by members of this department in order that Dept of Chemistry is prepared for decisions that may be required at short notice.

Please provide a list of the ten journals that are most important for your research here.
