LDAP Plans
None of this is set in stone, although it is now looking like it will actually happen.
why?
- authentication of users (initially so they can share password between workstation and backup server; later for other things too)
- crsid to email address mapping for scripts that mail people
- machine lists for things like ACLs to licences
Clearly this must be bullet proof so we need two servers. Where to put them. One can go on the new backup server but the primary ought to be close to the workstations. Very short of space in 373 and my office. Could stick it onto por I guess, but really por wants to be an old machine because of magic network card and this ought to be a little more reliable.
Put in athens rack? 1U box?
